Advantages Cctv Security System

Submitted by: Amit Kumar RANA

CCTV security systems can be a single camera and monitor or they can be very elaborate. A more complex system may include hundreds of cameras, digital recorders, and multiple operators. When you install a CCTV security system you will be able to avoid dealing with many of the thieves that strike businesses that are not prepared. This is a great deterrent for potential thieves. When they realize that your business is protected by a closed circuit television camera they may choose to go somewhere else.

There are many benefits to using a CCTV security system. If you own a business you will be able to provide a safer environment as well as making the business more efficient and less likely to be robbed. The use of a CCTV security system will increase security in the business itself and also around the premises of the building and any parking lots that are part of the property. The CCTV system can be used to monitor the cash registers. This is a good way to keep track of transactions and those using the cash registers.CCTV security system technology and CCTV equipment can be used in both internal and external environments to watch over and protect people, property, vehicles and valuables. CCTV is considered to be the most effective method of reducing crime.

CCTV services, in addition to identifying thefts and burglaries, also provide a number of other benefits. CCTV systems can monitor the number of customers shopping in different sections of the store. By recording these customer numbers, the business owners can take decisions regarding increasing the number of staff strength at locations where there is a larger crowd. In a manufacturing environment, these CCTV systems can continuously monitor the performance of the employees working in the shop floor. By reviewing the performance of the employees, the management can take appropriate measures to improve the productivity of any employee, through motivating or by offering further training.

CCTV also helps in monitoring occurrences just outside the business. There have been cases where people sue the business entity if they fall or slip just outside the store, claiming that water outside the entrance caused by the business is the reason for their slippage. Again, CCTV systems will help the business owner to take a call on the complaint lodged by the customer. Thus CCTV services provide a number of useful services above and beyond security services. Sometimes the deterrent factor of a CCTV camera is under-recognized. This is because with the CCTV in place, staff and customers ensure that their behavior is correct. The business owner will never truly know how much money their CCTV has saved them.

These small and medium sized food retail stores may be of the assumption that CCTV systems are only for the bigger outlets and not for them. But they can be making a big mistake. In addition to the customers, there have been many reports of employees stealing products. All these activities would have been caught on the CCTV camera and the business owner could easily catch the perpetrators. Security services provided by CCTV systems go a great way in providing peace of mind to the business owner. In these difficult economic times, it is absolutely critical for any business, irrespective of size, to safeguard their products. This is particularly true with respect to retail outlets.

U.S. Supreme Court eases government ability to seize property

June 24, 2005

In a major decision, the Supreme Court of the United States has expanded the right of government to seize private property for public good by allowing the city of New London, Connecticut to invoke eminent domain and seize homeowners’ property for economic development reasons.

In a closely-divided decision, 5-4, the court determined that the city’s economic development plan constituted a “public use”, and therefore qualified under the U.S. Constitution’s fifth amendment’s Eminent Domain clause.

Justice John Paul Stevens wrote the majority decision, and was joined by Justices David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer and Anthony Kennedy. “Promoting economic development is a traditional and long accepted function of government,” Stevens wrote, and justified the decision further by saying municipal authorities are better positioned to make decisions regarding a community’s best interests than judges.

Writing the dissenting opinion, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor rejected the economic justification as a public use, pointing out that wealthy individuals are more capable of defending themselves and so are less at risk. But the greatest issue was the liklihood of abuse of eminent domain:

“The specter of condemnation hangs over all property. Nothing is to prevent the state from replacing any Motel 6 with a Ritz-Carlton, any home with a shopping mall or any farm with a factory.” A separate dissent was also included written by Justice Clarence Thomas.

Canadian Government apologises for Residential Schools

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Stephen Harper, Canada’s Prime Minister, apologized on behalf of the Canadian Government for its role in the Indian Residential School System in front of Aboriginal Leaders, elders, and more than 1000 outside the Parliament Building. Harper proclaimed, “The treatment of children in Indian residential schools is a sad chapter in our history. Today, we recognize that this policy of assimilation was wrong, has caused great harm, and has no place in our country.” This apology was seen at more than 30 event around the country, and broadcast live on CBC Newsworld and CTV Newsnet.

The residential school system was created based on the Gradual Civilization Act (1857) and the Gradual Enfranchisement Act (1869), which assumed the superiority of British Ways, prompting the need for Aboriginals to become “civilized” by becoming English-speakers, Christians, and farmers. The funding of the schools was provided by the Indian Act (1876) and by the federal government department, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, and operated with the support of churches, generally the Roman Catholic Church and the United Church of Canada.

In the 1920s, attendance became compulsory for all children aged 6 to 15, and families who refused to cooperate were at risk of having the children removed by the government, and the parents sent to prison. The school systematically tried to destroy the aboriginal language and way of life, raising the idea of cultural genocide. Students were forbidden to speak their native languages, even outside the classroom, as to install the English or French language (and as result, to “forget” their native language), punishable by unreasonably severe corporal punishment. Practicing non-Christian faiths was also punishable by corporal punishment.

In the late 1990s, allegations of sexual abuse, as well as several physical and psychological abuse, arose, leading to large monetary payments from the federal government and churches to former students. The government also established the Aboriginal Healing Foundation, providing $350 million to fund community-based healing projects, and provided another $40 million in 2005.

On February 13, 2008, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made a similar apology in the Australian House of Parliament.

On June 21, 2008, Indian Residential School Museum of Canada is scheduled to open on Long Plain First Nation, near Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.

Canadian woman gives birth while sitting on toilet

Friday, December 18, 2009

International media attention has been a harsh mistress for 32-year-old Heather Richard of Winnipeg, Manitoba, who gave birth on Sunday while sitting on the toilet. Richard, who believed she was barren and thus assumed she could not be pregnant, thought she was suffering from cramps and a bad bowel movement.

“I kept getting the urge to push and just thought it was a real bad bowel movement,” Richard told the Winnipeg Sun, whose interview was picked up by the Canadian wire service. “It just fell out. I thought it was my intestines, so I’m freaking out…but then it’s a little boy.” Richard realized that the product was a baby and not her insides when its leg twitched.

Relatives of Richard’s found her hysterically crying and pointing at the toilet. “She was crying and saying, ‘Help me, get my baby out of the toilet, he’s drowning,” Keith Richard, her cousin, told the Sun. While the rest of the family was immobile by the revelation, police officers knocked on her front door; she was to be arrested due to outstanding warrants that Richard says have since been cleared.

One officer performed CPR on the baby and it was rushed to the hospital. The baby, since named Isaiah, weighed five pounds, nine ounces, and suffered a skull fracture, presumably as a result of his head hitting the toilet bowl. The baby is in stable condition and Richard is recovering from her birth at home.

The incident spread like wildfire in the Canadian and international press on Tuesday and Wednesday. When asked about the coverage, Richard told the website that she was embarrassed at all the fuss the story generated.
